From a Friend

Well, we have rounded the turn on 2014 and are into the backstretch of the year. With less than 5 months away from 2015, are we the only ones saying where is the year going? On the plus side, we are coming into September and that means two things: Baseball playoffs are right around the corner and the start of a new NFL year! Fall is also on the horizon so lets get out there and enjoy the rest of summer before it fades into memory. The Local Happenings Magazine calendar is always the best place to start your search for things to do. We have also made our website much more mobile friendly so that you can use it while on the go! Let us know what you think of our improvements.

August also means that our Local’s choice awards voting is getting ready to open up. Here are our current winners: http://www.localhappeningsmagazine.com/the-locals-choice-awards-for-2014/

If your favorites are not up there make sure to nominate them AND vote for them as well once our annual contest begins on September 1, 2014. Let your friends know to do the same and remember what they say in Chicago, vote early and often!!

The school year is also looming large. The kids will soon be back and parents everywhere will once again rest easy not having to worry about keeping them occupied for the summer. Labor Day is always the last push before we say goodbye to summer so be sure to plan accordingly. Isn’t it odd that there is no major holiday in August? How did the national schedule makers miss that? All of this, of course, means that we will all be extra busy enjoying life and all that there is to do as we wrap up our vacations and enjoy as much sunshine as we can. The Scottish games, the Renaissance Festival, loads of outdoor concerts, plays and other events are on the schedule to fill up everyone’s calendars.

Lots of birthdays coming up (Christmas and New Years is always a favorite time for the families to start) so we would like to send out a birthday wish to: Barbara, John, Karen, Yvonne, Kenny, Catherine, Dora, Christine, Christopher, Clara, Joe, Krystal, Bob, Pippen, Laura, Freda, Cindy, Therese, Laura, Jeff, Duane, Wendy, Debbie, Cindy, Derrick, Mel, Rich, Danny, Eric, Liz and of course our own Robert and Regina, all of whom mark another orbit around the sun…Happy Birthday to you all.

Enjoy and don’t forget to vote. Cheers!

We Will Never Forget . . .

I think most people can tell you where they were and what they were doing on this horrible day in our history. We should all take the time to reflect and remember, life is short and we don’t get a second chance. Breathe in all you can and love even more!

Today Ben had an opportunity to visit the 9-11 Memorial in Yountville in front of the Community Center – it was very moving.

So much to do . . .

Ben and I have been so busy with getting this past issue out that we almost forgot to let all of you out there what we have been up to! Ben has been getting all kinds of attention. He’s been in Danville, Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Benicia, Napa and Yountville and that’s just the last couple of days.

Today we have some meetings to attend in Vallejo so we’ll be anchored a little but that doesn’t stop Ben from making friends so keep an eye out for him and maybe you’ll be in this blog tomorrow!

Stretches, feed Ben and off we go . . .

Another issue is out!

So, you probably thought I went to China on a one-way ticket! No, I just have been so busy with deadlines and other commitments that I have been out of touch. Ben and I are back and will be letting you know our travel plans- keep an eye out for us! We’ll check in on Monday and let you know about our weekend travels.

Ben has been asleep on the job!

Danville Street Faire, Supermoon and more . . .

Supermoon over the PreserveThis past week has been so full of commitments. Ben and I have attended so many events, participated in fundraisers and visited with new and old friends. This past weekend we attended the Danville Fine Arts Street Faire and had so much fun. We are looking forward to their street fairs and car shows next month! We also had an up front and center view of the “Supermoon”.  Wow, for a “Moonaholic” it was pretty fabulous.

This week has already snuck up on us so we are frantically trying to catch up! Let’s see where we land . . .

Is it really Tuesday . . .

Little PiratesI guess coming off of a long weekend with the SPSV Golf Tournament on Friday and a Shrimp Boil Friday Night; continuing on to the Pirate Festival (Pictured at right are two “Little Pirates!”) and other festivities on Saturday into the night. Sunday was the grand finale since it was Father’s Day and Ben and I had about three engagements that were very important to attend only to be followed up with the Omega Boys and Girls Golf Tournament yesterday. It’s a wonder I haven’t had to check into rehab with all the socializing and drinking I’ve been forced to do!

Today is a new day to the rest of the summer, right? Well, BIG Slow stretches, meditation and then watering the yard. Feed Ben and off we go . . .
