City of Benicia’s Tree Lighting
The people behind the Benicia Tree Lighting are the Benicia Parks & Community Services Department, who are doing wonderful things all around the city of Benicia. They take care of the parks, put on great events throughout the year, oversee the community & aquatic centers, put on great programs for the youth in the city, and more! “The Annual City of Benicia Tree Lighting continues to be a success due to the incredible teamwork and partnerships of all city departments and Benicia Main Street,” said Ann Dunleavy, Superintendent of Parks & Community Services. “The Tree Lighting and Holiday Merchant Open House are some of the most magical nights here in Benicia … it’s so much fun to see our community come together to celebrate the holiday season!” We’ve got some time to go before getting to the next tree lighting but set a reminder now just in case.

Lafayette Art & Wine Festival
You’ll want to be in Lafayette on the 3rd full weekend of September for the Lafayette Art & Wine Festival. With 300+ booths that showcase fine artists and regional handmade arts and crafts, three KidZones, plus great wine, beer, and food, not to mention two days of continuous live entertainment across four stages featuring more than 20 of the Bay Area’s best cover bands—there is something for everyone. “Our goal is always to make what we hope is a great experience even better the next year, and your votes encourage us to work even harder to achieve that!” said the Lafayette Chamber’s Executive Director Jay Lifson. “We’re already hard at work on this year’s festival; look for a new area with arts & crafts, hand made by older kids.” Much of the festival’s offerings are free, including access to all music stages and admission. Located in Downtown Lafayette just steps away from BART, two blocks from Hwy 24, and so close to bike trails that there will be a bike valet! “The festival is a fundraiser, staffed mostly by volunteers,” Jay said. “It supports local education, Lafayette Chamber programs, and other local non-profit organizations.”
Mark your calendars for September 21st and 22nd starting at 10 a.m., Downtown Lafayette

Humane Society Napa County
Napa Humane (the Humane Society of Napa County & SPCA) is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1973. They began, in part, by offering a spay/neuter referral service, the first of its kind in the county, and the first step toward controlling pet overpopulation. The organization grew and flourished with time, adding lost and found services, humane education, and a small adoption center next to the Napa County Animal Shelter.
They believe that the answer to the problem of homeless, abandoned, and neglected companion animals lie in changing attitudes and practices that lead to irresponsible pet ownership. Their programs and services are designed to address the needs of companion animals—but also to provide support, education, and assistance for the people who care for and about them. Because the humane treatment of companion animals is such an important indicator of healthy communities, many have grown to consider Napa Humane a community service organization.
Since 2002, when they refocused their efforts on prevention, they have seen a steady decrease in the number of companion animals surrendered at the Napa County Animal Shelter. They are confident that their strategic direction and mission will continue to drive those numbers even lower.

Animal Clinic of Benicia
Doctors Harvinder and Harpaul Sandhu took over the Animal Clinic of Benicia in 2016. Today, they’re stronger than ever and they continue to work hard to build and maintain their practice that proudly provides its community with loving, friendly, and professional service. Having received this honor from our readers now for the fifth year, the Animal Clinic of Benicia has definitely been able to retain the quality care that we’re used to. They offer routine services such as spaying/neutering, dental prophylaxis (cleaning), growth removals and more. Dr. Harpaul specializes in orthopedic surgeries, so they’re now also able to offer TPLO surgeries for dogs—a procedure that stabilizes the stifle joint after ruptures of the cranial cruciate ligament, analogous to the ACL in humans. They can also perform ultrasounds and take x-rays. This clinic understands that pets are a huge part of the family. The team at Animal Clinic of Benicia thank you for putting your trust in them, and for your continued support.
