Blue Goose Antiques

What better venue for an antique shop than a house built in 1891? Located on First Street in Downtown Benicia and specializing in primitives from the mid 1800’s to early 1900’s, Blue Goose Antiques is much more than meets the eye, primarily because it’s owned by Marge Delmas. “Everybody that comes through that door is really special,” she said. “Even if they don’t buy anything, it’s just a treat for me every time they come in, even if just to visit and talk.” And you’ll find plenty of conversation starters from the moment you arrive. Most of the primitives at Blue Goose Antiques come from the New England states on the east coast, as there aren’t too many artifacts from those days here in California. Except, of course, the Blue Goose house itself! As a repeat winner of our Best Retailer category, Blue Goose Antiques have established themselves as a go-to spot for some very rare finds, attracting customers from all over the state and beyond. “It’s a nice atmosphere in here,” said Marge. “People pull up chairs, sit down and just start visiting. People I don’t even know! I just want them all to know that I really do appreciate them.” So pay Marge and her husband Dave a visit sometime soon, Thursdays-Sundays 10:30am-5:30pm, and check out some of their latest early American discoveries.

A Dress Change Consignment

As we mentioned in the Customer Service Award section, A Dress Change is under new ownership since winning both the Customer Service and Retailer category last year. This year? They won it again. New owner Jonni Smith has taken what everyone already loved about A Dress Change Consignment and made it even stronger than before! She had some big shoes to fill, but now we’re certain there’s remains a bright future ahead. “A Dress Change has had its facelift that has proven to be very successful with our customers,” Jonni said. “However—it’s the same great merchandise and same great prices. And especially, it’s the same great faces working hard to make the shop the success that it is.” When it comes to retail, they’ve covered all the bases and then some. Wednesdays are particularly special for customers for two reasons: 1. It’s senior discount day! With 10% off all sales for women 55 or older, and 2. Michelle Cadden and Susan Aboudara—whose teamwork has been known to draw a crowd—are working together. Fan favorite Bonita Morgan can be found working every other Sunday, when you can also find some of her special customers that plan their trips according to her schedule. Remember that Customer Service award? A Dress Change has simply got it all, inside and out.

Diablo Valley Country Club

Diablo Country Club is a welcoming and unique place nestled at the foot of Mt. Diablo. Opened 100 years ago as California’s original family-oriented golf club, the traditions of excellence and sportsmanship for generations of members stand the test of time. The grounds, originally an 1874 country estate for the families of railroad barons and gold mining icons, was converted in 1914 to a world-class golf and country club by their founder Robert Noble Burgess. His vision, to create “A Community With an Ideal” is evidenced in many of the structures and activities that exist to this day. From refreshments in their Carriage Lounge, circa 1881, to youth swim competition since 1914, entertaining in their Red Horse Tavern, est. 1917, or a round of golf on their iconic course designed by legends Jack Neville and William Watson, Diablo Country Club continues its tradition of being a welcoming place for their members and guests.
