Natural Health and Wellness Center, Inc.

Maintaining health is even more challenging in today’s world with the chemicals, metals, and radiation that we’re exposed to in our foods, lifestyle, and environment. Valerie Ozsu opened Natural Health, and Wellness Center, Inc. because she wanted to incorporate her 42 years in advanced nursing, kinesiology and nutritional education to design individualized programs to help men, women, and children. Her restorative medicine practice seeks to find the cause, and discover how to reverse a person’s illness, rather than just recognizing and treating the symptoms as in traditional medical practices. Dynamics in illness and healing requires that a person understands how to reverse the cause(s) of their disease whether it be nutritional, physical, emotional or any combination of these.
Valerie’s mission is to educate, reverse health challenges, and promote longevity without or in conjunction with a person’s medical care. She is very knowledgeable in hormone balancing for men and women, utilizes hair analysis, a variety of specialized labs, thermography (a non-radiation form of breast cancer screening), and she recently added neurofeedback in her clinic.  In addition, she works with clients on allergy clearing, reversing diabetes, hypertension, lipidemia, thyroid disease, and digestion issues. Valerie also designs individual detoxification and purification programs using only organic whole food supplements, herbs, homeopathies and treatments including: PEMF, Cold Laser, infrared saunas, and foot detox baths.
Feel free to join Valerie at her free community workshops, or learn for yourself by visiting Valerie’s new website and reading about her services: naturalhealthandwellnesscenter.net. Schedule an evaluation and discover why so many of Valerie’s patients are so excited about how much better they feel, and the progress they have made in improving their health and wellbeing.

Hospice of the East Bay

Hospice East Bay, a 43-year-old hospice pioneer, provides comfort, support, and care for those in their final stages of life, as well as for their loved ones. In doing so, it seeks to strengthen its role as a community leader in hospice and palliative care—which focuses on symptom and suffering relief, and grief support––and to build an environment of collaboration, celebration, opportunity and growth, as they embrace the changes their patient’s experience.

Established in 1977 by community volunteers to create support for patients who wanted to die at home, Hospice East Bay has since then been privileged to provide comfort, support, and care for more than 30,000 patients and their families. Its mission is to care for patients through the end of life, easing fear and suffering, while also ensuring that patients and families retain dignity and control over their personal choices, Rico Marcelli, a spokesman for the firm said.

Hospice East Bay has grown to include many programs and services, he said.

In addition to its core hospice care, the firm offers palliative care, inpatient hospice care, and grief support for the entire community. Hospice East Bay also operates a chain of six Hospice Thrift Shoppes throughout Contra Costa County to raise funds for special programs and charity care, a volunteer program, and opportunities for careers in hospice.

Hospice East Bay’s inpatient care home, called Bruns House, combines inpatient hospice care for those requiring acute symptom management in a type of privacy and quiet not found in a hospital, with intensive round-the-clock care that cannot easily be achieved at home.

The East Bay’s only inpatient hospice house, Bruns House has cared for more than 3,000 patients and their family members, Marcelli said.

Syar Foundation

The Syar Foundation was founded by C.M. “Tony” Syar and his wife B.M. “Boots” Syar as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation in 1998. It was their gift to the communities where Syar Industries, Inc. operated and grew into the company that it is today. Tony Syar started the company that became Syar Industries in California in 1938 with a contractor’s license, some tools, and a 1932 International dump truck. From this humble beginning and through untiring work, Tony, with Boots always at this side, built highways, and developed housing tracts, built and improved military bases, and manufactured countless yards of concrete and tons of aggregate products. By the time Tony retired, he had built Syar Industries, Inc. into one of Northern California’s largest producers and suppliers of high-quality aggregate rock products, asphaltic paving materials, and ready-mix concrete. Much like Tony himself, the Syar Foundation started modestly. In 2001, however, Tony made his final act of generosity by leaving his entire estate, representing a lifetime of hard work, to the Syar Foundation, increasing its size and impact on the community exponentially. Consistent with the wishes of Tony and Boots, the Syar Foundation seeks to support the communities that supported Tony, Boots, and Syar Industries for so many years. Since 2006, the Syar Foundation has made over $4.5 million in grants.

Tim & Jeannie Hamann Foundation

Tim & Jeannie Hamann, family and friends started fundraising annually for American Cancer’s Relay for Life, where monies are used for cancer research. One of their first ways of adding to that annual donation was their Annual Community Garage Sale, which grew for many years.

In 2005, they began their first Annual Dinner & Auction at their home, which took off and grew. It has continued to be very successful, to the point that it is now held at the Clocktower in Benicia to make way for all the donations and guests.

A need to start a 501(c)3 foundation arose when a close friend, in her early 30’s, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She was struggling with treatments while continuing to work, and challenges continued for her. The Hamanns did a picnic in the park; through Facebook, they reached out to many of her friends and raised over $4,000 so that she could replace her car, which was no longer running properly. The rest is, how they say—history!

In less than 5 years the Hamann Foundation has granted over $320,000 to local patients giving a HAND UP assisting with rents, house payments, groceries, gas cards, and medical expenses.

The Hamann Foundation continues to “Make a Difference” by giving grants to patients and sending money for research. They are currently working with John Muir, Sutter and Kaiser as well as directly with patients referred to them by the community.

The Hamann Foundation and its volunteers work tirelessly to raise more funds to help even more of the community. They originally started with one event and now they not only have the Annual Auction, but also a Rib Cook-off, Turkey Trot, and a “Sip and Shop” evening; all of which have proved to be extremely popular. The Hamann Foundation Annual Auction 2020 is scheduled for April 24th, and it is already headed to being a sell-out!

The Foundation makes a difference for those who are going through the journey of fighting cancer and just need a Hand Up to make life a little easier.

Forma Gym

Life is good; be optimistic and energetic. That’s the message the team at Forma Gym hopes to convey.

It opened in Walnut Creek in 2009, and it was also completely renovated with a modern design and the aim to “get rid of the notion that the gym is just a place to work hard and sweat.”

With the stated mission to “make exercise a part of our member’s daily lives, for the rest of their lives,” as they “continuously pursue personal and professional growth and improvement,” Forma employees say they deliver on this promise in part by creating “an unimaginable experience through legendary customer service.”

Forma’s mission also includes building trust through open and honest communication, helping members and employees find ways of making their lives an adventure by being creative, staying open-minded, embracing change, and playing every day.

One way they help make that happen is by offering The Spa at Forma—which provides “the optimum wellness experience and a comprehensive menu of therapeutic treatments.”

Another unique service offered is Whole Body Cryotherapy—a comprehensive wellness solution company officials experienced themselves and decided to add to the gym’s offerings to support recovery and pain relief.

Forma Gym also offers personal training, cycling, Pilates Reformer, Aqua and Mind-Body classes, Rise Paralysis Recovery, Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and more.

Being a family-friendly club that strives to provide convenience and support for members, Forma Gym has also created a space where “you can enjoy a guilt-free workout while your kids (ages 6 weeks-12 years) are free to be kids within the safe, active, and educational environment of our Forma Kids Club.”

They point out that skin is the largest organ in the body and can tell many things about a person’s overall health, including if they have problems such as liver, digestive or even gallbladder issues, just by looking at it.

They are trying to teach everybody that skin is not just about what’s on the outside. Diet, hydration, vitamins, stress, and lifestyle are important factors when they’re working with clients. Services include facials, peels, eyelash extensions, permanent make-up, bridal and special event make-up, and more!
